2018 Summer Events

We hope you’re planning to come to the Cape for the many events including the Best Buddies Challenge, a Cape League game, Father’s Day Car Show, Escape the Cape Triathlon, the Hero Triathlon, Nantucket Book or Film Festivals or just to visit Hyannis Harbor when the Artist’s Shanties open. And that’s just in June!

The 47th Annual Figawi Race Weekend

Start date: May 25, 2018

End date: May 28, 2018

Location: Hyannisport

Figawi Race Weekend kicks off the the Cape Cod and Nantucket summer season. Entries include over 200 sailboats ranging from families promoting the sport of sailing to competitive sailors alike, bringing three thousand sailors & visitors hailing from all over the country including the Carribean, as well as locals.

The first boat officially begins at 10 am off the Hyannis Port Jetty. But beginning around 8 am, the parade of sailboats head out of Lewis Bay, pass by Kalmus Beach, and gather off Hyannis Port. The boats start from 10 am until approximately noon. Around 200 plus sailboats in 13 divisions compete across Nantucket Sound, in various courses, to be the first one to reach Nantucket.

Hyannis Art Shanties

Hyannis Art Shanties

Browse among the seven colorful shanties at Ocean Street docks – featuring local artists who work and sell their wares right from their “seaside studios”.  Artwork varies and includes painting, jewelry, sculpture, glass, ceramics, mariner knot work, wood carving, and much more! Artists change weekly.  FREE family entertainment several days a week.

Rhododendron Festival

Rhododendron Festival

Thousands of world-famous rhododendrons in over 100 varieties and an explosion of color cover 100 acres with spectacular blooms. Enjoy a peaceful walk surrounded by walls of flowers, learn more about Heritage Museums & Gardens storied rhododendron legacy, participate in activities with horticulture experts, and take one of these signature plants home with you from the special plant sale. All Rhododendron Festival programs are free with museum admission. No advance registration required.

Memorial Day Weekend Celebration of our Veterans 2018

All Veterans /Active Military and a guest are invited to join us on Memorial Day Weekend for FREE round-trip transportation from Boston and all CapeFLYER stops along the route to the Hyannis Transportation Center where buses will be waiting to take you to the 14th Annual Troops in the Spotlight.

14th Annual Troops in the Spotlight

Opening Ceremony will honor our WW2, Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan Veterans. A special ceremony beginning at 3pm (Sunday) will honor our Vietnam Veterans. The Department of Defense recognizes Cape Cod Cares for the Troops a Commemorative Partner to appreciate and honor our Vietnam War Veterans for their service, valor and sacrifice. We invite all Vietnam War Veterans to participate in this ceremony. Each veteran will be introduced, thanked for their service, presented with a gift, and then officially welcomed home. After a short ceremony the Official Vietnam War Commemoration Flag will be presented and proudly flown until the closing ceremony of Troops in the Spotlight. The is invited and encouraged to be part of this event and give our Veterans the welcome home they never received. it’s never too late for a grateful nation to thank and honor our Vietnam Veterans.

Join us for a BBQ lunch, send a video message to our deployed troops, donate items for care packages, visit the Iraq/Afghanistan Memorial Wall, Kid’s Tent ( with arts & crafts, games, free raffles, and face painting), tour many types of military vehicles, support the troops raffles, music, car show (from 4-7pm), midnight ceremony to honor the beginning of Memorial Day, sign our Support the Troops Banner which will be sent to one of our deployed units. More to be announced…

You can help by bringing items needed for care packages, make a monetary donation, write out a few cards and letters to go in our care packages, and most of all please plan to attend anytime during this 24 hour event.

“Cape Flyer” passenger train will provide FREE transportation from Boston’s South Station to Hyannis, making several stops along the way.

Nantucket Book Festival

Nantucket Book Festival

On an island that has captured the imagination of Melville, Benchley, Philbrick and countless others, the Nantucket Book Festival continues that great literary tradition by bringing today’s best and brightest authors to Nantucket for a weekend in celebration of the written and spoken word. The festival features many free talks, readings, and presentations throughout the long weekend, with trademark ticketed events that include Authors in Bars and the annual Cisco Brewers’ Pig Roast.

This weekend celebration of the culture and heritage of the Portuguese in Provincetown is an annual event filled with traditional Portuguese dancing, music, and cuisine. This family-friendly festival features incredible food and entertainment and fun activities for adults and kids.

71st Blessing Of The Fleet (Sun, 1 pm)

The Provincetown Portuguese Festival 2018 & Blessing of the Fleet weekend is capped off with the annual Blessing of the Fleet at MacMillan Wharf. After a procession through town, boats decked out in their finest parade past, the bishop blessing the vessels and crew for safe and prosperous before their long and possibly dangerous journey. The Provincetown Portuguese Festival & Blessing of the Fleet is a great event for the all family. It is the best way to experience the beautiful, coastal Cape Cod community.

Take the CapeFLYER from Boston for a tour of 3 of Cape Cod’s most popular Breweries! Cape Cod Beer, Devil’s Purse Brewing Company and Hog Island Beer Co. A trolley is reserved for the day and the Hampton Inn and Suites Cape Cod is offering a 15% discount if you would like to spend the night. Tickets include round-trip ticket for the CapeFLYER, transportation to each brewery, and Tasting Ticket to be redeemed at each brewery. Must be 21+ to participate.

A Cape Cod tradition continues with WCOD cooking up its annual “Chowder Fest” at the Melody Tent. It’s the recipe for a perfect day of sipping and slurping samples of chowder from many of the Cape’s best restaurants, all competing for the coveted “WCOD Chowder Bowl.”

Bring the family and spend the afternoon savoring the “souper” seaside flavor of quintessential Cape Cod, while being serenaded by some of the best bands on the Cape. Don’t miss your chance to get “bowled” over by the Cape’s choicest chowders!
